BLUETTI EB150 vs EB240 Review

When the power goes out or you’re on a camping trip, it can be a serious inconvenience to be without electricity for an extended period. Solar generators offer a backup solution to help keep things more comfortable. BLUETTI has two excellent models, the EB150 and EB240, that provide quality power in times of need. We are going to compare them based on power, charge speed, and convenience.

BLUETTI EB150

BLUETTI EB150

The BLUETTI EB150 features 1500 wH of lithium battery that is sourced from high-quality LG cells. You won’t be let down if you need to power a lot of devices without recharging the EB150 for a long time.

It also comes with battery protection for high and low temperatures. What this means is that in extreme temperatures, the device will automatically protect its batteries, so you don’t have to worry about damaging them.

Additionally, the EB150 features a 1000 W pure sine wave inverter. This is perfectly matched to the battery size. What this translates to is the ability to run the machine at full capacity until you fully drain the battery with no risk of damage to the unit. You can easily run refrigerators, TVs, fans, lights, and the like directly off the EB150 due to its inverter size.

It has a true MPPT charge controller, offering you the most efficient charging possible. When you pair this with four 100 W 12 V solar panels, the EB150 can fully recharge in good sunlight in 3.5 to 4 hours. Additionally, it has a maximum input of 60 V.

This generator has two methods of charging. First, you can recharge it directly through its AC wall charger. This method will take approximately 9 to 10 hours, which is excellent based on market standards.

The other option is to use solar panels. In the box with the generator is an MC4 connector that you can use to attach any solar panel that has the same connector, as long as it is within the 60 V input range. The maximum input is 500 W, but the ideal setup is 400 W at 12 V.

The unit is highly portable as it only weighs 37.9 pounds.

BLUETTI EB240

The BLUETTI EB240 solar generator can be powered for over 2,500 cycles due to its large power bank.

When compared to the EB150, the EB240 blows it out of the water with its massive storage capacity of 2400 wH. However, in ideal sunlight, the EB240 takes longer to fully charge at a period of 5 to 6 hours.

In addition to its LED display screen, the EB240 features two AC outlets, a DC 12 V outlet, a USB-C outlet, and four USB outlets. This large variety of outlets will allow you to power and charge many devices at once for the most efficiency possible.

It features a 1000 W inverter which is powerful enough for most emergency and home devices, but you will have to take care when trying to operate larger equipment simultaneously.

Unfortunately, the EB240 is relatively heavy. It comes in at just under 50 pounds, making it quite a burden for some people to lug around.

When charging through a standard AC wall outlet, the total charge time is approximately 10 hours. While this can be inconvenient, it is offset by the benefits of the large battery life and variety of outlets. Additionally, if you remember to charge the device overnight, it will not be that much of an inconvenience.

The battery is protected from short-circuiting, overheating, overloading, and overvoltage situations.

Our Recommendation

Clearly, both models offer excellent options for backup power sources. The EB150 provides 1500 wH of battery power, charges in 3.5 to 4 hours in ideal sunlight, and conveniently only weighs 37.9 pounds. We recommend this model for avid campers, people who live a mobile lifestyle, and anyone who lives in an area prone to power outages.

On the other hand, the EB240 offers 2400 wH, charges in 5 to 6 hours in ideal sunlight, and weighs almost 50 pounds. We recommend this model for more stationary use. It would be ideal for those who live in areas prone to power outages and not for those who would need to transport it.
