Laser engravers are becoming more popular as creative individuals want to have more tools at the ready to complete their own DIY projects. They can be used to make jewelry or engrave special pieces. xTool D1 offers two models, the 5W Rotary and the 10W Rotary, that offer excellent features. We will base our recommendation on user skills and project needs.
xTool D1 5W Rotary
The xTool D1 5W Rotary is a portable laser engraver that features excellent accuracy, the ability to engrave cylinders, and easy assembly.
Adopting the latest high-power 5-7.5W laser module, the x Tool D1 5W Rotary features a 0.08mm ultra-fine compressed spot. 10,000mm/min is its maximum cutting speed. It can cut 8mm wood board and 3mm acrylic in one pass and directly engrave stainless steel that hasn’t been coated.
An all-steel wheel and shaft works in tandem with a synchronous belt to enable a motion accuracy of up to 0.01mm with a positioning accuracy of less than 0.02mm. This allows the engraving machine to perform in silence and maintain perfect engraving effects even after a long time in use.
When the rotary attachment is used, large-diameter cylinders can be engraved. The machine has a large engraving range of 432 x 406mm and a 140mm engraving height. It also has 2 sets of risers that allow users to meet various DIY needs. It can engrave materials such as leather, stainless steel, acrylic, wood, metal, glass, food, rubber, bamboo, paper, ceramics, fabric, etc.
It’s compatible with both LightBurn and the company’s software, Laserbox Basic. Data can be transferred via TF card, WiFi, or USB cable.
The engraver is easy to set up out of the box, taking approximately 10 to 20 minutes to set up. Additionally, it features a focus lever and knob design that allows you to adjust the focus quickly and easily with no tools needed.
One major downside is that it doesn’t come with a user manual. You will have to download it from the manufacturer’s website.
xTool D1 10W Rotary
The xTool D1 10W Rotary is a portable engraver that features extreme detail, high accuracy, and the ability to engrave cylinders.
It can cut thicker materials than the 5W Rotary model. They both offer equally impressive accuracy and speed.
The 10W Rotary model offers 60W machine power with 10W output power. Featuring dual laser head technology, it can cut a 10mm wood board and a 5mm black acrylic board in one pass. It features speeds up to 10,000mm/min.
The engraver has a compressed spot as small as 0.08 x 0.08mm and allows for more detailed laser engraving and finer cutting of lines down to 0.06mm. Additionally, it offers fewer burn marks with amazing details.
With an all-steel wheel and shaft combined with an enclosed synchronous belt, the engraver allows for a motion accuracy up to 0.01mm with repeatable positioning accuracy of less than 0.02mm. It operates with less noise and has a longer lifespan due to its robust structure.
Cylindrical objects with diameters from 3mm to 198mm can be engraved when you use the rotary attachment. If you add raisers to D1, you can increase the large 17 x 16-inch working area to accommodate objects like skateboards, baseball bats, or large-sized paintings.
It’s compatible with both LightBurn and Laserbox Basic software. LightBurn is for more experienced users while Laserbox Basic is for beginners. Data can be transferred via USB cable, TF card, and WiFi.
Like the 5W Rotary model, this model also does not come with a user manual. You will have to download it from the manufacturer’s website.
Recommendation
Clearly, both models offer excellent features. The 5W Rotary offers an easy setup, works in near silence, and has a high level of accuracy. We recommend this engraver for beginners.
On the other hand, the 10W Rotary model offers stronger cutting capabilities, more powerful output, and a high level of accuracy. We recommend this for more advanced users who have more detailed projects to complete.
