Milwaukee 2727-20 vs 2727-21HD Review

Milwaukee is well-known for its powerful line of tools. They’ve upped the ante by adding chainsaws to the long list of available power tools. Two options that they offer are the 2727-20 and the 2727-21HD. It’s no surprise that both chainsaws offer excellent features. We will base our recommendation on project needs.

Milwaukee 2727-20

Milwaukee 2727-20

The 2727-20 is a battery-powered chainsaw equipped with a 16-inch Oregon bar and chain. It features excellent cutting abilities that make it comparable to many gas chainsaws. It will offer you less noise, no fumes, less maintenance, and immediate start-up.

When operational, the chain moves at 12.4 m/s with no load. It also features a variable trigger which is very useful as running at full throttle nonstop will result in overheating. The trigger is very responsive, easily increasing or decreasing the speed.

The 2727-20 features a brushless motor, metal bucking spikes, an automatic oiler, and a chain brake. The Powerstate Brushless Motor is specifically designed for this chainsaw line to provide power and performance similar to a 40-cc gas engine.

Having the automatic oiler will make maintenance very easy. The button for this is located just above the trigger so you’ll be reminded to pump the oil whenever you need it. It will keep the chainsaw operating with no wear and tear because the chain will remain lubricated for long-lasting impact.

Also, it has Redlink Plus Intelligence that ensures optimal performance. It provides overload protection that prevents damage to the tool and battery while you perform heavy applications and still maintains compatibility across the whole M18 System.

While it does not come with a battery or charger, it is compatible with all M18 batteries and chargers. Battery life is dependent on the capacity of the battery you choose and how you use your chainsaw. It can typically offer you up to 150 cuts per charge. Attaching the battery is also very easy.

This chainsaw is easy to use. It’s relatively lightweight at 13.9 lbs.

The 2727-21HD is nearly identical to the 2727-20. The only major difference is the fact that it comes equipped with a RedLitihium High Output HD 12.0 Ah Battery Pack and charger. This battery provides up to 50% more power and runs 50% cooler than the standard RedLithium HD battery packs.

This chainsaw comes equipped with a 16-inch Oregon bar and chain. For improved retention of the bar and chain, it has a dual stud. To give you full control, it has a variable speed trigger.

The motor is a Powerstate Brushless Motor. It provides the power and performance of up to a 40-cc gas engine.

It features an automatic chain oiling system. This provides constant lubrication to the chain to increase productivity and prevent kickback from a dried-out chain.

It features onboard storage for the scrench that comes with the chainsaw. Additionally, it is compatible with over 175 M18 solutions.

It’s lightweight at 13.9 lbs and runs at 6600 RPM. This makes the chainsaw incredibly easy to use and maneuver. You will not experience the fatigue that normally comes from operating a gas-powered chainsaw.

Additionally, the grips are ergonomic and easy to use. They feature a rubber over-mold grip to ensure that you get a firm hold on the tool. It has a safety feature so that you don’t accidentally pull the trigger. It also has a full D-handle to give you more options for gripping. As with other chainsaws, it features a bar lock for safety.

This chainsaw features a 3-year warranty on the tool itself and a 3-year warranty on the battery.

Recommendation

The 2727-20 offers you an automatic oiler, variable speed trigger, and Redlink Plus Intelligence; however, it is a letdown that it does not come with a battery or charger. If you already own tools from the M18 line, this chainsaw is for you. We recommend it for homeowners who will be using it around the house for smaller-scale projects.

On the other hand, the 2727-21HD comes with a battery and charger and offers all the benefits of the 2727-20. It is a great investment for homeowners who need to add to their arsenal of home improvement tools even if they do not own any tools from the M18 line.
